HEIST - Heat Exchanger Integrity Testing

HEIST Integrity testing

Unison is revolutionising the way the food, liquid processing and pharmaceutical industries test their pasteurisers and plate heat exchangers. HEIST, Unison’s patented heat exchanger integrity self-testing system allows companies to test their key heat exchangers daily, before going into production which greatly reduces the risk of product contamination and  costly product recalls. Rather then testing 2-4 times a year, risking a cracked plate occurring in between tests and causing product contamination, HEIST eliminates the risk and ensures that your process is protected. Instead of having to rely on outdated methods of Heat Exchanger testing, Unison’s HEIST system empowers companies to take control of their testing, eliminating the need for service engineers and allowing tests to be done quickly and effectively leading to reduced downtime and savings on cost.

Having tested thousands of Plate Heat Exchangers over their 80 years experience in the industry, Unison weren’t happy with the systems that were available and knew that we could develop a unique solution that would make daily self testing of Heat Exchangers possible. In 2021, Unison is launching HEIST, which is the World’s First Heat Exchanger Integrity Self-Test System. HEIST detects for cracked plates in most pasteurisers and PHEs. This system is fully integrated into new heat exchangers or can be retrofitted into existing ones.

Unison understands the need for expensive production downtime to be kept to a minimum. HEIST is non-destructive with no dismantling of plates and only uses process water which greatly reduces the risk of contamination in comparison to all other testing systems. HEIST is reliable and fast, taking just minutes to get results on the spot. HEIST System also carries out fully automatic holding time testing whenever this test is required.

• Worldwide Patent Approval

• Validated By The Bernal Institute, University of Limerick

BENEFITS OF THE
HEIST SYSTEM

  • Non-destructive fully automatic Plate Heat Exchanger testing technology. No need to dismantle the PHE resulting in minimum downtime.

  • Requires process water only. No need for gas or chemical solutions resulting in no introduction of possible contaminants.

  • Testing only takes minutes.

  • Test can be carried out every day prior to production.

  • Immediate, on the spot integrity results at point of test.

  • Test certificate generated by HEIST after each test.

  • HEIST allows the user to take control of all validation. Testing of complete system can be controlled by the vendor.

  • HEIST is the only integrated self test system available on the market.

Avoid Product Loss
and Contamination

Micro cracks and holes in pasteurisers, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, heater coils and jacketed tanks can result in product contamination due to service liquid leakage.

Typically, these defects are difficult to diagnose without dismantling the equipment, resulting in unwanted and expensive downtime. This time-consuming process can lead to significant loss of production and profit.

For this reason Unison's minimum disruption, integrated HEIST System is the best solution for your PHE crack testing.

HOW DOES
HEIST WORK?

The technology relies on the detection of a pressure increase in a closed volume of the heat exchanger. There is no comparable self-testing system presently available on the market making the HEIST System a one of a kind heat exchanger testing technology. The HEIST System is capable of detecting leaks to an accuracy of 30μm in plate heat exchagers. The test is rapid, with results generated between 1-15mins (PHE size dependant).

A failed test result suggests closer inspection of the plate pack to identify leaks. So with the HEIST System, detection of cracked plates is very simple, validating the benefit of having this technology integrated in your process system.
